Stoke City have completed the signing of winger Michael Kightly from Wolverhampton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

Sky Sports revealed earlier this week that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs, with only personal terms and a medical to be put in place.

Stoke confirmed that a deal has been done on Wednesday, but have not revealed the length of the contract signed or the value of the transfer fee involved.

Manager Tony Pulis is understandably delighted with the acquisition and believes Kightly will bring important competition for places.

Strong competition

"There is nothing better than to have strong competition in all areas of the squad and Michael's arrival will give us that in the wide positions," he told the club's official website.

"I've long been an admirer of Michael, not only in terms of him being a provider, but also the fact that he gets his share of goals.

"Our two wingers, Matthew Etherington and Jermaine Pennant, have been brilliant for this football club over the past few years, but they went off the boil in terms of goalscoring last season, so we wanted to address that.

"Competition for places will bring the best out of them again and that is what Michael's presence will give us in that area."

Kightly was 'red hot' a couple of seasons back, but lost his way I think ..

Isn't it odd that Stoke can sign a Wolves player on the QT but the attention we get over Fletcher is the opposite?

Is it us or him who are "high profile" as we appear to be the only ones interested in him.

Just seems some clubs go about their business and it's over and done with...

With SAFC everything seems a drama.

we do seem to suffer from an inordinate amount of negative/speculative press with regard to our own signings/targets etc. I find it rather annoying ...
