Most on here will remember when

Post  vinkel on 2017-05-26, 6:43 pm

an ex goal scoring hero of ours wanted to become our manager. The club didn’t take the chance, it's frightening to think what could have been. Guess what an ex goal scoring hero of ours wants to become our manager.

I remember us giving Quinny the job and nearly taking us down, we are a bit too soon for Superkev he needs to cut his teeth in the lower divisions first.

I could have supported Newcastle and be deluded. Instead I chose Sunderland and became depressed.

In all fairness to SNQ, he never wanted the job.
Took it on until he got the right person in, rather than appointing someone he wasn't convinced by

Just to put some perspective on Cloughie and our apparent lack of letting slip, he wanted away to start his managerial career and he did a good job at "Pool before moving on.  In later years both he and Revie said they used the Sunderland job to further their purposes at Derby, forest and Leeds.

Clough is documented in saying he would have come to Sunderland if they had asked - all he had to do was apply like others and he may have made the short list.

All written in his memoirs years later.

Phillips not for me, haven't a clue how he will fair in his first managerial job and a massive gamble we simply can not take.
Saying that any appointment is a gamble but Phillips is a way to big of a gamble.
