Re: Moyes Has Gone!!

Post  Silvers on Mon May 22, 2017 5:56 pm

Sunderland AFC has announced that David Moyes has resigned from his position as manager of the football club.

David advised the chairman and chief executive of his decision to leave the club at a meeting in London this morning (Monday 22nd May 2017).

Speaking about the decision, chairman Ellis Short stated: “I pursued the services of David Moyes for a considerable period prior to his appointment last summer, which makes the announcement of his departure difficult for everyone concerned.

“Having worked tirelessly throughout the campaign to avoid relegation from the Premier League, David has chosen to leave the club without compensation, which is testament to his character.

“In the days ahead we will take some time for reflection, and then focus on recruitment and pre-season as we prepare for our Championship campaign. We wish David well in the future.”

David Moyes said: “I would like to thank Ellis Short and the Board for giving me the opportunity to manage Sunderland and the fans for always being so passionately supportive of their club.

“I wish the players and my successor well in their efforts towards promotion back to the Premier League”.

Alan Pardew – 5/1
Nigel Pearson – 8/1
Garry Monk – 8/1
David Wagner – 10/1
Aitor Karanka – 10/1
Kevin Phillips – 14/1
Paul Lambert – 16/1
Steve McLaren – 16/1
Julio Arca – 20/1

Could mean a couple of things this
1. Short has had enough and done a deal ( no compensation my fat hairy arse).
2. Moyes saw the transfer budget and bailed.
Could he have turned it round? We'll never know now, just hope the new man is in asap and we can start to shed the dead weights and light weights from our pitiful squad of players. Hopefully Moyes has taken Bracewell with him as well, useless coach who preached sideways and backwards as a way to win games, maybe in Rugby but, not in Football.

Re: Moyes Has Gone!!

Post  Nostalgic on Mon May 22, 2017 6:58 pm

IPersonally I am sad to see him go since he has the experience and qualities to do us some good in the longer term.  From Match 1 when a McNair deflection saw us lose by a single goal at ManC followed by a string of long term injuries saw us drop into a losing streak that people saw as down to him alone.

His critics keep bringing up his negative attitude about our relegation battle, but this claim is based on him answering a reporters question about some fans saying we would be in such a fight and he said they were probably right.  I saw this as an honest fair answer, better than claiming he and his players had the capability to keep us out of trouble. Outside of the transfer windows he was forced to sign players who were free agents and even they ended up injured.

The stability I hoped he would bring has gone with him, but the lot being listed on here are not the answer.  If we have to find one fast then either of the managers from Watford or Southampton would do me. They were nobodies before coming to England but did worthy jobs in keeping their teams safe.

100/1 Mark Warburton. Get ya cash on boys n girls.

Currently out of work having been sacked by Rangers. Will cost nowt to get. Will ask for the lowest wages. Wont ask for a transfer kitty & he knows Bain.

He will take us down but Ellis will make another pathetic choice.

PS, Have a few bob saver on Gary Monk being here this week tho.

I cannot see any decent manager coming while we have no money for transfers. We are not going to get much (apart from Pickford if he goes) from the sale of other players.  My guess is that's why he walked.

Reading between the lines short has told him there's no money as he needs to keep all of the 100 mill for himself and keep bankrupting the club so moyes has had enough, short will pay him on the quiet so he keeps quiet as to why he has left, short needs to go for the club to move forward he is just dragging us down ,asset stripping

I am not sorry he has gone at all. I have made my feelings clear throughout the season that I never felt he was the right man for SAFC. But I give him huge credit for going without compensation. He knew people had lost their jobs and obviously felt partly responsible for the financial belt tightening as a result of our relegation. Shame the remainder of his contract money did not go to the redundant staff instead of (as paddocklad alludes to) padding out Short's retirement fund.

thank goodness he's gone, ive never seen such a pessimistic leader of a team, no wonder they didn't want to play for him, now lets get a bullish go gettem manager someone with some fire in his belly who wants to win everything.

I understand where you're coming from but would you really rather have Pardew?

The depressing thing for me is that it just means Short's not giving out any money for transfers and Pickford will be sold. Why would any decent manager come here? Monk is rumoured to be favourite for the Boro job. Aren't things looking great?!

The Scot informed owner Ellis Short and chief executive Martin Bain that he would be leaving Wearside when the club's hierarchy met in London on Monday morning to thrash out plans for next season. With Sunderland facing debts of £110million and a drop of revenue of £70million from the lucrative television deal, Moyes felt he wasn't the man to help Sunderland bounce straight back from the drop given the financial restrictions facing the club. The club is in line for a £44million parachute payment plus key players including Jordan Pickford and Lamine Kone will be sold but there have been no guarantees that money would be used to help revamp the squad given the debt and drop in income.

seems Moyes hasn't the bottle to take on the challenge, get some hungry young manager with modern thinking in. Monk from Leeds would be  my realistic target. Eddie Howe as my unrealistic choice.
