Rivalry or hatred?

Post  Footie73 on 2017-05-19, 7:55 pm

Many moons ago when you still got four bottles of brown ale for 10 bob (50p), I would have a pint before a derby game at St James in the Strawberry and it was not unheard of to have a drink with the Newcastle supporters. Rivalry was there but not the hatred you see today.
I think it all started with the "bovver boys" in the late sixties early seventies, over the years all the aggro subsided but left a lot of supporters with a feeling of hatred towards each other.
I love my team, warts as well  and will defend them to anyone but would love to see the old rivalry at a match rather than police escorts and unnecessary violence at these games.

Hatred, rivalry, what's your choice.

Still possible to have a few beers with rival supporters. Regarding the Newcastle game I have done this a couple of times in the last 4 derbies. The problem is all teams have their nutters. You just have to strike up a bit banter with decent lads.
If you strike up banter with nutters you take a deep breath, count to 10 and punch the b*stard at 8 cos they aint expecting it.

Could not agree more but hate between a lot of supporters of both teams is the norm sadly.

It's  a very sad fact that some so called safc fans think beating the mags is the most important part of a season, and they would rather win these two games and be relegsted than lose to nufc. That to me is not a safc fan. Not even a football fan.

Only ever been tempted to once to punch someone at a football event, but he was Leeds supporter at a do where the speaker was Emlyn Hughes who included some comments on Revie's management of the England squad.

Never had a problem with NUFC supporters.
