Sunderland fans have praised the performance of Lee Cattermole against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Cattermole was selected to start by David Moyes and his performance against the Gunners impressed.

The combative central midfielder showed his usual battling qualities, and help Sunderland put up a spirited fight against Arsenal.

Sunderland ended up losing the contest 2-0, thanks to a brace from Alexis Sanchez.

But Cattermole’s display was widely praised, with many Sunderland fans admitting that they had missed him badly this season.

[ltr]In a team of questionable commitment, love seeing Cattermole play for #SAFC - he'll be the first one throwing himself around next season.[/ltr]

[ltr]We're a much better side with Cattermole in.

A midfield 3 of Ndong, a fit Cattermole and Ki / M'Vila would have been ideal.

Oh well.[/ltr]

[ltr]Cattermole, Defoe & Pickford. The three who would should have built around this year, but nor we got a load of Everton rejects[/ltr]

9:29 PM - 16 May 2017

Cattermole’s campaign has been disrupted by injury, and his absence has been keen felt by David Moyes’ men.

Sunderland have endured a torturous campaign, which has left them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and destined for relegation.
