WPC Yvonne Fletcher!

Post  canary-dave on 2017-05-16, 7:56 pm

The man who murdered her in 1984 outside the Iranian Embassy has been released from bail without charge because the evidence that proves he killed her is inadmissible in court due to reasons of national security.

So a killer walks free and Yvonne's parents are denied closure! Very sad and very frustrating!

[size=118]Hopes that those responsible for the murder of police officer Yvonne Fletcher outside the Libyan Embassy would finally be brought to justice were dashed last night after the Home Office blocked the use of key evidence in the case on “national security” grounds.
Saleh Ibrahim Mabrouk, a former education minister under Colonel Muammar Gaddafi who was arrested in connection with Pc Fletcher's shooting in April 1984, has been told by police the investigation against him will not proceed "at this time".
Pc Fletcher was killed as she policed a demonstration against Libya's former leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, outside the Libyan People's Bureau in St James's Square on April 17 1984.
The shooting sparked a 10-day siege of the building before 30 of the occupants were deported back to Libya.
No-one has ever been prosecuted over the killing.

Sources close to the investigation last night blamed the Home Office for blocking use of the key evidence in any future trial.
The decision by the Metropolitan Police and Crown Prosecution Service to release Mr Mabrouk, now an academic in his 50s, has left the family of Pc Fletcher "deeply disappointed and frustrated".
In a statement they said: “We understand that some available evidence could not be used in court but are satisfied that the Metropolitan Police has left no stone unturned in its pursuit of justice in Yvonne's case.

"The family would like to thank the Met for its continued hard work and diligence and also for always keeping us informed at every turn.
"We are deeply disappointed and frustrated that a prosecution cannot proceed at this time.
"We had hoped that the latest turn of events would finally lead to some closure for the family.
"The family will make no further comment at this time."
A spokesman for the Met said: "We believe our investigation has identified enough material to identify those responsible for WPc Fletcher's murder if it could be presented to a court.
"However, the key material has not been made available for use in court in evidential form for reasons of national security.
"Therefore, without this material and following a review of all the evidence that was available to prosecutors, the Crown Prosecution Service, who we worked closely with throughout, have informed us that there is insufficient admissible evidence to charge the man."

Asst Commissioner Mark Rowley, of the Met Police, said: "I regret that we have not been able to deliver the justice that the victims and their families deserve.
"Our thoughts today are with WPc Fletcher's family and all those affected by the events of that day in 1984."
The Met Police said that although investigation would always remained open, it pointed out that the likelihood of finding further evidence, in Libya or elsewhere, was low.
“Our judgement is that this concludes what was by far the best opportunity to solve this tragic case and provide a degree of closure for the victims and their families,” said Scotland Yard.

Police were initially hampered by diplomatic immunity laws but during their investigations officers became convinced the killing was carried out by members linked to the so-called "stray dogs" campaign, which was orchestrated from Libya to attack overseas dissidents.
John Murray, a former Met officer who held Wpc Fletcher as she lay dying, said he had been told by Scotland Yard that “vital evidence has been withheld under the guise of national security”.
He told The Telegraph: “That is horrendous, absolutely horrendous, if that is correct. If that is not a perverse use of the law I think there is something wrong.”
Mr Murray said he was planning to start a private prosecution against Mr Mabrouk. Burdens of proof are lower in the civil courts.
“I am considering now taking out a private prosecution against him. I will be looking to raise money and to get a very good lawyer to do it possibly on a pro bono basis.
“This would be a high profile private prosecution. The burden of proof in the civil court is lower and if we do go ahead, the Met Police are legally obliged to hand over the evidence they have got.”
Mr Murray said he had not yet spoken to Pc Fletcher’s family.
Mr Mabrouk’s son Osama Saleh Ibrahim insisted in 2015 that his father was innocent. He said: “'You know when you didn't do anything... we trust the law here in England.”

Sounds very. very fishy to me and just terrible for that poor young woman's parents and family, who surely deserve to see the guilty party punished. Crying or Very sad

National Security? So has someone high up, like a HOME SECRETARY OR PRIME MINISTER given this man immunity in exchange for other information that was used to topple Gaddafi in October 2011?

Let's think, who was Home Secretary at that time? Well, well well, none other than TERESA MAY herself Shocked

If this means the CPS have been closed down again (see also Election Expenses Fraud) this is really, really worrying for justice and democracy in our country Evil or Very Mad
