I made this (well a similar recipe without the chopped tomatoes, as I am allergic) only yesterday! Hope all goes well with Misha Smile

Post  cretanmakem on 2017-06-10, 4:59 am

As this week draws to a close , and a busy one indeed . Tomorrow may just provide a new path for me to follow . For reasons to be talked about another time I have had a 'go' at simple pebble painting . Amazingly I've sold a few without doing owt . People like them , good enough for me .
The number one restaurant in the area has them as table numbers , the top bar has some rather 'bright' ones and I have stones about to go to Glasgow ,  Manchester , Birmingham and Chelmsford , I already have one in L.A ( yeah Los Angeles ) an american film actress has one and two rather nice  gift shops want them to sell . People have placed orders , people want them , haha my relaxation , calm me down past time will in July become an online shop .
Now this is not the point of todays blog , no todays blog is about helping , helping some very hardworking people , people who put their personnal selves way down the list when it comes to helping a worthy cause .
Tomorrow I meet two people who tirelessly work to make a better Crete , two people who put an animals welfare above their own .
I hope to be able to help in my own small way ( if I was even slightly well off I would be frontline on this case ) . They need help , financial help , I have holes in my pockets , so I am hoping my pebbles can help them .
Here are one or two ... and then a link to a facebook page for friends to see my 'progress' , I am not asking for anything here , just a minute of your time to have a look and comment , I'm a grown man , I am a Sunderland supporter , I know pain and suffering and disapointment . If you like them then fab , if not then please comment and tell me why they are crap , this is crap chat so feel free .
https://www.facebook.com/Clattart-Hand-Painted-Bespoke-Pebbles-1867889756811400/ just click the facebook link and then left hand side of screen hit the photo and save yourself all my crap chat on the page , enjoy ( hopefully ) my pebbles .

Re: Cretans daily crap chat ooops blog

Post  cretanmakem on 2017-06-11, 5:13 am

What have I done ? Oh my oh my .
New neighbours ,,,, well to be honest they will be new neighbours , using their new home as a holiday place as they still have commitments back 'home' .
A challenge was set before they flew back to the UK , weight loss ,,,,, yup me the Mythos and Gyros King taking on a younger obsessive man who has shares in Banatynes gym and just spent a week riding in 30degree heat up and down mountains .
I am a gob shyte ,it has just got me in trouble ,,,,, or has it ?
So as I never intend to stop having a cool bottle of Mythos on my patio as the suns beats down on my Bhudda belly and my fat arse is never ever going to mount one of them hard , pile making , ball breaking cyclist seats how am I going to be even competitive in this rather silly prop bet .

Well as per usual I have a cunning plan ,,,,, chop off a leg ( the dodgy broken one that has left me currently with a limp ) , that'll win the bet .

Hmm on second thoughts lets be a bit more realistic , since January 31st I have had a broken leg , followed by a bone infection in said leg , so effectively I have sat on my bottom , Mythos guzzling , doing nothing but exercising my jaw in constant complaint about my dogs not getting walked and me daily having less and less clothes to cover my ever expanding Bhuddaness .
Now some , not all by a long way , but some of this weight is water retention , some has built up during this four month arse sitting , pebble painting period .
So that weight loss shouldn't be too hard to get me kick started ,  then without fail OCD kicks in , I hate losing anything , I am competitive even in what appears a one sided race .

And so yesterday a plan was slowly going through the grey matter , resulting in ,,,, a walk , a swim , a walk and old fat peg leg actually making the first step in weight loss .

I even gave Maria a laugh , I have kept some jeans I loved , slim fit , nice cut , well was a nice cut , now I would have difficulty getting one leg into both legs of the jeans , as she saw when I stripped off on the patio and did a good impression of a sumo trying to get into a ballet dancers tights .

A walk , 25 minutes to the sea , a swim , then a walk into Sissi ( no beer break , I nearly needed hospitalisation walking past the Coconut and not stopping ) and back home which was probably another 45 minute walk . A fair first effort .
This is my game plan , poop cleaning , patio scrubbing , plant watering , dog walking ( cigar cigar ) , lunch , walk/swim/walk , home , tea , plant watering , die a death from knackerisation ( theres a lovely non word ) ,,,, repeat until either heart attack or prop bet won , jobs a good un .

Pics of our destination to swim , and the chapel that sits on the coast where we plunge into the blue depths of heaven . Sorry for the shaky Maria inside the chapel ,,,,, but if this swimming destination doesn't encourage me into weight loss nothing can .

Question is do I post my weight on here ? Do I really embarass myself with a horror picture of me struggling into said slimfit jeans ( anyone with a heart condition or delicate nature needs to be forewarned ) , it is going to take a monumental failure in the first two weeks of this prop bet for me to need that kind of incentive .

YES!

I think the answers to your questions in last paragraph are "yes" and "yes"! Love the photos of your swimming destination and Maria of course. You will be pleased to know that young McBean lost weight last week in Zante on a liquid diet!

Trust a Ginga to want to see me the fat man near naked ,,,,, I know I'm irresistable .
Heres the rub , I have a target in mind for June 24th if I dont reach it then pics from today ( OMG Maria is going to get all hot and bothered me stripping off to get into those jeans again ) of Bhudda cretan style will be posted .
To make it fair and reasonable my weight was an horrific 110.8kg at the start of this campaign , would half a stone , 7lb , more than 1.5kg  a week be a fair loss ?
Meaning if I am not 107.5kg or less by 24th June I post the pictures .

A flavour of what may be produced in evidence 24th June .......

You seriously want my version of this delight ?????

ps I've just viewed the pics you all better pray I lose more than my target ,,,, Maria has fainted and needs a GandT to recover ,,,,it is bloody horrendous .

They (whoever "they" are) say that 2 lbs a week consistent weight loss is most desirable but as you say at first with ridding yourself of water you might lose more. I have lost about 10 kilos over last 6 months and my recipe is lots of walking but also got a Fitbit that advises me to get up and walk at least 250 steps every hour (between 9am and 7pm). This definitely helps. I also go to 4 exercise classes a week, 2 aquafit and 2 sort of yoga/pilates combination exercise classes. Tried the gym but really don't enjoy it so gave the classes a go and find it more motivating having others around me. I don't reallly drink alcohol except the odd half of lager and the odd glass of wine (really it is true!) and I have cut down on the treats like cakes that we used to enjoy mid-afternoon. Me and Mr H also have recently joined the bowls club! I know its for old people but we realy enjoy it and it is very sociable. And with the walk down to the green, and playing 21 end games we are on our feet for around 3 hours, in the fresh air and its wonderful!

However for the most rapid weightloss I recommend getting 4 year old and 8 month old grandchildren, who you have to run around after 24/7 when they come to stay with you. Because despite having treats again with my daughter on our trips out and about have lost another 2 kilos since they came to visit on 26th may, from all the extra activity! Very Happy

'Fitbit' yeah I have a fit bit of stuff called 'Maria' cannot quite see how she helps me burn calories ( pleaseee don't go there ) .
Beer , bread my failings in life ,,,, have to reduce to a STOP . Red wine here I come .
Bowls for you lol darts for me , just found a new place to throw the 'arras' . No way I can hit double top minus a beer or six .
Not sure I'm up to kidnapping kids off the streets so for me 5 monstrous kittens will have to replicate noisy , smelly , brats ,,,,, ah they already do .
Diet ,,,, bring it on , or sorry Sundermadders pictures will be published of Cretan Bhudda .

Re: Cretans daily crap chat ooops blog

Post  cretanmakem on 2017-06-12, 5:03 am

What a day , yesterday , anyone who actually reads this crapchat will remember this week was possibly a turning point , a redirection of my life . Well I can say without fear of contradiction that meeting new people in my life yesterday has created challenges and opportunities .
Maria and I had a lovely couple come visiting , chat went on and on and on , beer and wine flowed and oiled the vocal chords .
I may have found an ideal partner in my quest for Clattart Pebbles to actually mean something ,,, someone who sees potential , someone who sees an opportunity .
If all goes to plan , my pebbles will not only give me what I seek but will undoubtedly help Animal Rescue in Crete , my ego was flattered yesterday , which we all know is big enough already , but more than this , much more than this , my attempts at producing something someone might actually want to keep will help dogs and cats in need here in my paradise ( not necessarily an animals paradise unfortunately ) .
Time and planning and effort and knowledge will hopefully get all parties to a goal acceptable to all . I am excited , I am happy , I want it to be a success , I want my meagre pebbles to save dogs and cats in need . IT WILL HELP .
Alongside this Clattart chat other matters were discussed , ideas floated , bigger challenges presented , obstacles of challenge thrust into the field of battle . It is without doubt that I write this crapchat today with a different view of my paradise , I have ideas , plans , investigation into possibilities , business plans , PandL discussions , ideas forming to maybe just maybe help in this fight against animal cruelty .
When I have formulated our ideas into a cohesive battle plan , then I will chat , until then I have a lot of work to do , I also have to walk , swim , walk , do all the other daily routine stuff and now I have to sharpen my 'arras' ready to enjoy at least one night away from what will inevitably become a lot of hard work , but could just possibly help one or two people and will certainly help many dogs and cats , my life has taken on a new purpose ( sorry Maria , OCD has as always reared its ugly head , please be understanding and patient , I need to do this ) .
So excited about yesterdays events I buggered off into my plastic plant growing 'tunnel' and erected .... wait for it ,,,,, erected .....LETS PLAY DARTSSSSSSS

Good for you! As we have found out since retirement, no one is ever too old to change the direction of their life, or to find new things to engage with. In fact you must; why waste the best years of your life after finishing formal 'work' and before being too frail to do all the things you still want to do? Hopefully, as we now live longer, that gives all of us many, many years to enjoy! Very Happy

Post  cretanmakem on 2017-06-14, 4:55 am

I had a day off yesterday , not intentionally , but unexpected events took over our day .
And so here we are today , 6am and we stand with plastic cups awaiting Misha my husky to cock his leg . This is before my first coffee of the morning , waiting to get dog pee in a cup without getting a hand full . Today is the day of his final tests , today will tell us if his kidneys are responding enough for us to breathe out and relax just a little . Outer signs he has shown look like it will be a good day for us , but me being me I will wait until I am sure he is going to be okay .
His diet of fresh chicken fillets and greens ( which he has always loved ) scrambled egg , fresh mince  has replaced dry dog food ( due to salt levels ) and has of course increased our food bill . The dry food he can eat is 45 euros a bag , compared to 9 euros a bag for the usual stuff . That is some hike in our spending .
Looking after and loving ten dogs costs ,,, a lot .
This Misha worry plus scalibor collars has led to a 1200 euro fork out this past two weeks , I reckon a very good session on poker is needed or maybe my pebbles will be just the ticket ?
Some good news potentially , the kittens we have at present look likely to find their forever homes in Holland , this is the good work people do here ( I don't mean me ) , these kittens would roam around bins , scavenge for food and if unlucky some fkn degenerate with no idea of cruelty would poison them ( animal welfare is slow on the island of Crete ) . So I want to thank in advance Ambers Hope Crete animal rescue , and I am sure  we can help each other in the near future . Things look brighter , ideas look positive , plans shortly to be presented , it may result in some paid employment for one or two ( a rare thing over here ) my business head is firmly back on .
Anyone out there have contacts or knowledge of a Sprinter type vehicle for sale ( I need a UK vehicle ) keep your eyes peeled PLEASE this is for a good cause .

Good luck to Ginge , Harry , Blondie , Debbie , Smokie , you are some of the lucky ones .

Good morning ,,,, and what a good one it will be , McInnes to be our new manager ,,,, I like that idea , Bracewell gone I like that also , not because I think he is no good at his job , but his demeanour and look made Moyes look like Syd on happy pills .
A new broom ,,,, good good good , lets pray it becomes a Durch sprung technik  broom very shortly .
And to make me even happier three of the boy kittens ,,, ginger buggers all of them , leave for their forever home tomorrow .
Now as a donation to help these kitties on their way a voluntary 20 euros per cat for neutering is asked for ,,,, oh how I love Cretan ways . Living here takes you back in time , no euro , no sterling , no Drachma ,,,, just plain old bartering . If you have anything it has a worth , around the bins are always cast offs , things that back in the UK would be on a skip and ten foot under before you can blink an eye . I have some fab plant holders , broken woven bits and pieces which were formerly laundry baskets from hotels cast off pre season . We collected all the old hammocks/sunbed matressess cast off around hotel bins for animal shelters ( great bedding for pups ) the wood from the hammocks obviously found its way into a sombre or two . I have a great metal outdoor table and chairs in our garden cast off because slats were broken , a bit of tender loving care with a broken pallet and a new seating place has appeared . My neighbour has just finished cleaning , painting and polishing four lovely outdoor seats . I collect old ropes ( being a fishing village Sissi offers a lot of cast offs ) this is for an ongoing , but slow progressing project , but hey its for FREE .
So back to the kitttens , 60 euros from our pocket ? I think not , my pebbles , those freebie beach pebbles with a bit of paint and varnish , a wee bit of haggling  too and fro and pebbles became the currency of the day . I am happy , the lady in question is happy ( she knows her money will multiply when she auctions off said pebbles for her charity ) job done . I guess my little boy kittens will not be so happy minus their nuts , but prevention is better than a poisoning say I .

You really make me smile Cretan Very Happy

I am no pet lover myself, not that I would ever harm any animal and I love bird and wild animal watching, but in the little town in Spain where we have our holiday apartment, it is a bunch of Brits that look after the cats there too! Good luck to you and Misha and keep up the good work with the charities xx

Hmmm me and my really really big mouth , now what did I say about weight loss and some really bloody awful pictures ?
Ah yes Mr Obese Cretan WILL by next Friday weigh in at 107.5 , Oh bloomin hell my jaw should be wired and never released unto the world again . One week gone and the scales show ...... 109.7 . So 1.1 kg lost , now my personnel trainer has said thats the way to do it ,,, so thank you Hieronymous .
2.2 kg in the next 7 days ( 5lb in old money ) bring it on .
Unfortunately tonight I am out , more on that in a mo , tomorrow a lovely couple are visiting to see our animals ( Maria not included in that catch all phrase ) so my resistance to Mythos will undoubtedly disappear . On the good side I have not had a Mythos ( or any other  named beer ) since the escapades of Monday night .
Now back to tonight , I have to , really have to go out , nothing to do with my desperate need of a cold refreshing beer and some meze , nothing to do with going stir crazy in my home since Monday , no I have a real reason ,,,, the kittens will GO , I have to take them , just so happens I have to deliver them to a bar in Istron , just so happens tonight they play DARTS , just so happens I am a DARTS addict . I love DARTS .

Now a brief history lesson folks , in 1983/84 I was a pretty good DARTS player  ( county level ) , for reasons of family , kids , job etc etc I never played seriously again ( or even picked up a set of darts in competition ) until moving to North Allerton in 2005/7 where once again I took up the arras for two years ( and reasonable results followed ) . Now since then no DART has been thrown competitively until ,,,, well until I learn how to play again .
Overweight , near blind , lame , old , no darts ,,,, this time around it is near impossible me thinks . But dartboard was erected , practise commenced , frustration went through the roof , but I WILL PLAY DARTS , tonight with new friends I will try the arras and stand at the oche once more to commence battle .
Crete and Greece has seen an explosion in DARTS , another crap chat .
I will not win many games , I may not win any , I will be annoyed , frustrated , upset but I will play DARTS , it is like a drug , like my Mythos it is a need .
My trainer said 250 steps per hour ,,, I made my practise dartboard 125 steps from my front door , I walk to and from the dartboard 120 times an hour at 8 steps each time , I manage over 1200 steps an hour playing darts ,,,, yeah my darts may be rubbish now but I am excersising , burning calories , ridding myself of FAT .
Maria always finds the good in crap , me I find an excuse for DARTS and MYTHOS .

No bullshit ,,, I did play darts . FYI we won the pairs and the fours , I am/was the younger of that motley crew . I loved those guys , friendliest folks around .

So living in Crete makes you fat and an animal lover....not too bad I suppose

Bridget Bardo lived on the South of France and became an animal lover as well. Must be something about the warm weather.

Does Crete get its share of Refugees?

Cretan diet is supposedly one of the healthiest in the world ..... LMFAO only if you live on olives , raki and oranges . Fast food is taking over and now Heineken own Mythos brand , the worlds end is nigh.
Early retirement and a Mythos and meze diet made me fat lol I reckon 4 stone in 4 years is a bloody disgrace , that is now at an end and remedies are taking shape in my life ( watch my weight ) .

Animal awareness is more accute due to our 'western' perceptions of cruelty and so living in a mediteranean country animal welfare becomes an animal lovers achilles heel .

Refugees ,,,, just about  NONE , well very few  , we get boat people but not in their thousands . Crete is not on the refugee highway like some Greek islands ( Kos ) nearer Turkey . Not sure what 'share' means in your context , we have Albanians , Romanians etc mostly working within the tourist industry , without this migrant population 'Western' Europeans wouldn't have Crete as a holidday destination . For me diversity is a positive . For holidaymakers it is a necessity .
Syrian boat escapees land here few and far between , who in a civilised world would not help these people ? The Cretans help .
