Moyes doing what he does best, finding tallent

Post  cyprussyd on 2017-05-11, 7:48 am

The Stadium of Light will bid farewell to several Black Cats first-teamers this weekend and when football reconvenes at the arena which will mark its 20th birthday later in the year, there will be plenty of new faces.

Reports in Scotland yesterday indicated Sunderland are readying a bid of £2m for Hibs striker Jason Cummings.
The Daily Record claim David Moyes will move for the 21-year-old to kick start his summer business.

And here's another four potential targets to whet your appetite and make up a full starting eleven of fresh faces.

[/size]

Jordan Hugill - Striker

The Preston frontman hit twelve goals in the Championship this season to lift his side to an eleventh-placed finish.

Standing at 6ft tall, Hugill is good in the air and would come with a strong work ethic and physical strength.

The 24-year-old's rise to the second-tier of English football reads like the checklist of an aficionado of the north east non-league scene with spells at Seaham Redstar, Consett, Whitby Town, Marske United and Gateshead.
Born in Middlesbrough, Hugill was set for a trial at Sunderland as a teenager but had to drop out due to an injury.
Preston rejected a bid of £1.5m from Ipswich for him in January so that has set a starting price for offers this summer.

Ollie Watkins - Attacking Midfielder

At 21-years-old Exeter midfielder Watkins has caught the eye in League Two this season. The Devon-based outfit are readying themselves for a Play-Off semi-final trip to Carlisle this weekend and may also be preparing for bids landing for their rising star.

Watkins is an an attacking-orientated versatile midfielder who can operate centrally or play in a wider position.
The Torbay-born youngster has scored 13 goals and racked up 10 assists in English football's fourth-tier this season and looks set to make a step up with Championship sides Leeds and Bristol City credited in recent days with an interest in securing his services.
Watkins was named EFL Young Player of The Year for his performances at Exeter during 2016/17.
One for the future perhaps, it would be little surprise to see Sunderland added in to the speculation about his future in the coming weeks.

Tom Lawrence - Attacking midfielder / winger

Lawrence spent this season under the tutelage of Mick McCarthy with a loan spell at Ipswich from Leicester.

With nine goals to show for his stint at Portman Road, the former Sunderland boss utilised Lawrence in a variety of positions across his front line - as an attacking midfielder, on the wing and up-front as an out-and-out forward.
The 23-year-old Welsh international is currently being linked with Leeds, Derby, Newcastle and Sunderland or with a season back at Leicester to establish himself at the King Power Stadium.
Lawrence joined Leicester for £1m three years ago and new Sunderland recruitment consultant Rob MacKenzie - who was a technical scout at the Foxes back then - will know him well.

Adam Smith - Goalkeeper

Born in Sunderland, Smith has been with Northampton Town since being sacked from Leicester City for his part in that infamous Thai video a few years ago.

Rehabilitating his career in League One, Smith has been recently linked with moves to Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Derby County.

At 24-years-old the goalkeeper is set to leave Northampton this summer and with Sunderland destined to lose Vito Mannone and Jordan Pickford, he could do a job back at his home town club.
Smith has been watched by a host of Premier League and Championship sides this season and could be a good addition at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are expected to make a vast amount of changes to their starting line-up in the summer transfer window.

According to the Northern Echo, Sunderland are preparing to make Hibernian striker Jason Cummings one of their first signings of the summer.
Sunderland are set to make a vast number of additions in the coming months, as Moyes oversees as shake up at the Stadium of Light.
And Cummings is reportedly on the Black Cats’ wishlist, after Moyes has been impressed by the striker’s progress this season.
The 21-year-old striker hit 23 goals in the Scottish Championship this season, as he fired Hibs to promotion.
Sunderland are now prepared to offer £2 million for Cummings, as they look to find a way to replace the goals of Jermain Defoe.
Cummings, himself, is believed to be very keen on the transfer as he wants a move to England to test himself.
According to the Northern Echo, Cummings may not be the only player Sunderland sign from Scotland this summer, with Moyes keen to utilise his links north of the border.

Cummings, himself, is believed to be very keen on the transfer

How refreshing to hear that someone wants to come.

Sounds decent mate just hope he doesn't end up in the one for the future basket or worse the Fletcher basket.
Haven't watched him to be fair so worth a try.

Well I hope they prove to be better than Love and McNair who have been extremely disappointing signings who are both on big wages.

He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels.
After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?'
The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.
In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, 'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things:
1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
2. The bouncer is a blonde girl with a 'Billy-Club'.
3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.
4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter.
5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.
'Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy ... do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?'
The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, 'No ... not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times"...

I'm coming round to the way of thinking that indeed I do live on another planet when it comes to Sunderland.

Both Love and Mcnair were bought for the future but Mcnair was coming good before being injured and Love shows potential.
I also have good feelings about next season  and transfer business.

Not alone Syd, I thought McNair was coming good too. Not too sure aout Love mind, but we will see.

If we had had plenty of money and could have let them develop in the U23's then I would have said Moyes did the right thing buying 'prospects' but the  fact is we needed to spend on the finished article if we wanted to stay in the Premier League.

All water under the bridge now of course, but will be interesting to see if they can cope with the Championship.

Again though why are we buying ones for the future when we have an Academy? those two IMO were bought for that reason. Unfortunately due to injuries etc. they had to be put in. With H on McNair and also Love, maybe a season playing regularly will bring them on, who knows?
Just for a change lets buy players for the first eleven and, if any players cannot be deemed better than their counterpart in the first eleven then don't buy them.
Our transfers and transfer dealings both in and out have been a shambles for the last 5 years and, if Moyes can sort that out then there could be a small ray of hope for the future.
