Sunderland v Swansea.--Match Day Thread

Post  cyprussyd on 2017-05-06, 6:36 pm

We know that this is a dead game for us but it could be a massive game for Swansea,Palace, Hull and Boro.
It will also be our last home game in the premier league for who knows how long.

Looking at the remaining fixtures for the teams fighting to stay up makes me glad in a way we are down, I can imaging the nerves of the other teams fans.

They are just a few reasons that I will be there and I hope more than expect another 40,000 joining me, TBH I have no idea why anyone who could be there would miss the day but each to their own.

After recent performances especially against Hull I would make a few but not many changes.

PICKFORD
JONES  OSHEA  DJILOBODJI MANQUILLO
N'DONG DENAYER HONEYMAN
KHAZRI DEFOE ANCHEBE

Think that would be a bit radical for Moyes mate but, would get my vote.
Pickford making saves means more money when he finally gets sold, Jones had a decent game as did JOS much to my dismay. Honeyman seems to have got over his passing to the ball boy stage and looked a lot better. The rest were okay bar Anichebe who looked like he was playing in flip flops.

Back in 1962 we went to Swansea needing a win to gain promotion but only drew.  It would be fitting payback if we beat them next week and keep the relegation pot boiling for them.

On BBC site that Swans players are paying for fans tickets at this game so it could be a bit lively in the SoL for this game given that it will be our season last as well.

Weve seen enough defeats at the SoL this season whats one more.

Let Swansea win I say and relegate Hull with ourselves. Much easier for the lads who travel away.

Yep, 3000 Jacks coming up for the party. Just think how tense a game it could have been for us.

Really, really looking forward to it and Gil is right about them winning. All of the away day fans on the bus are praying for a Swansea win, 8 O'Clock KO on a Tuesday night in Swansea is no fun, Hull is much nearer.

Next Saturday @ The Stadium of Light.
A must win game for The Jacks.
A pressure free game for The Mackems.
Free tickets and travel for 3,000 Jacks fans.
Let's make it 40,000 cheering Mackems for us.

It's our last home premiership game for who knows how long.
Let's have a relegation party.

Even tho they are Welsh I am more than happy to let them stay up at the expense of Hull. A 8-9 defeat might be canny to watch although it would put is in the record books for the wrong reasons again.

Re: Sunderland v Swansea.--Match Day Thread

I don't claim to be an expert on football but can claim some expertise on marriage, well maybe more on divorce. Right now here on SunderMad it feels like many are still in love with Sunderland but have had a massive row so the sheen is a little tarnished and you can cut the atmosphere between the two lovers with a knife.

Yes the team have been unfaithful before and we have forgiven them, just, but they have never walked out before, well not for ten years.

On Saturday we say our home goodbyes to the premier league and no doubt a number of players but sadly for many the in-laws, Ellie and Dave will still be around and that for some is unacceptable so they wont be attending the party.

Maybe I am more battle hardened, more forgiving or simply just a fool but I'm looking forward to Saturday more that I have looked forward to a game for some time and I'm counting down the days.

Knowing we are down and I accepted that at the end of the Boro game without any anger or even sadness, we have had a good run, rode our luck and now luck had caught up with us. A new adventure begins, I expect Moyes to stay, I expect Short to give him enough cash to rebuild and give him a chance.

With 3,000 Jacks and a team desperate for all 3 points I expect a good game and I expect a Sunderland win.

I will be sorry to see Defoe go but it's the right time for both parties, we need a new fresh exciting set of strikers. I won't be in the least sorry to wave goodbye to many who have let us down but will wish well to those who tried their best but their best was simply not good enough.

Kone is IMO a very good footballer but a good footballer is not wanted or needed if he only goes through the motions and Borini against Hull was hard working, none stop and a credit but it's a pity he had not produced that in every game so no sadness in seeing the back of both.

The best set of bus passengers you could wish for will I'm sure be back on the bus with me long before the players come out for their lap of honour because like most fans I fail to see any honour in their achievements this season so that will be my little protest, leave before they come out.

I will be back one more time this season for the under 23 game, will follow my usual routine for the Arsenal and Chelsea games then it's a few weeks off before it all starts again with the opening of the transfer window.

I'm genuinely sorry that many are hurting or are still not ready to forgive.
And I'm very, very sorry for all the good people who did nothing to bring on relegation but are paying the price anyway with the uncertainty that unemployment brings. Now they really do have every reason to go for a clean break divorce.

Circumstances, management and players come and go, but the club still remains. As this season wore on and nothing went right the feeling of doom set in about February so relegation is just the end of the season. No good feeling sorry when we have a transfer window to concentrate on.

And just to make the party complete..

Sunderland’s final home game of the season against Swansea City this weekend will be refereed by Andre Marriner.

Nice gesture from the club. I read earlier that he was not too well so hope he can make it.

Edit: If you don't normally buy a programme perhaps you might think about it this week as I have read that all the proceeds are going to Bradley's Foundation.

Bradley Lowery to be Sunderland's cover star at Black Cats' last home game of the season
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Bradley Lowery pictured at a previous Sunderland game.

SAFC fan Bradley Lowery will grace the cover of the match-day programme at the Stadium of Light this weekend.

The Blackhall five-year-old, who has cancer neuroblastoma, is also due to be mascot for his beloved Sunderland on Saturday at their last home game of the season against Swansea.
Sunderland AFC tweeted a picture of the programme cover earlier today, which features Bradley in his Sunderland strip giving a brilliant smile and a double thumbs-up.
Little Bradley, whose widely-publicised cancer fight has touched thousands of hearts across the world, has previously had the honour of leading out the Sunderland team both at home and away, as well as being mascot for Everton - his "second best team" - and England when they faced Lithuania in March.
At Wembley Stadium, he walked alongside his best friend, Sunderland player Jermain Defoe.
The striker has spoken of his touching friendship with Bradley numerous times in recent months, as well as posting messages on his social media.

The programme. Picture: Sunderland AFC.

Appearing on ITV's Lorraine show in April, Defoe teared up as he watched a "love you" message from the little man himself. He added: "He's an amazing child."

Bradley will celebrate his sixth birthday later this month.

The match starts at 3pm on Saturday. If you're there, make sure you give Bradley a big cheer!

Sunderland will acknowledge fans support at the end of their final home game of the season, but David Moyes has said that a lap of honour would not be appropriate.
