Sunderland AFC, where managers go to die

Post  cyprussyd on 2017-04-30, 10:31 pm

Lawrie McMenemy
Regarded as top manager until he joined us and became a laughing stock

Howard Wilkinson
Successful Leeds manager, England manager then joined us and became a laughing stock.

Martin O'Neill
Regarded as one of the top managers in the country, joined us, failed and was sacked.

David Moyes

Regarded as top manager, now facing uncertain future.

Just some of the managers who have failed at Sunderland.
Is it just coincidence?

It is not a massive coincidence Syd, but it does show that appointing managers is as much a lottery as buying a ticket.  They have a record well earned elsewhere but pressure to provide what we thought we were entitled to at the time did not appear.

Fate seems to be against us as it looked like we had found the right man with Big Sam, and then the rest is history.

A little harsh given that I'm sure they ALL tried their very best everyday unlike those employed to work for them.
