Wont miss anything, just move on and adjust, it's still football, still Sunderland and still a great day out.

Yes unfortunately I will still have to watch because of Everton of course Very Happy

Championship football is on Channel 5 and is presented by George Riley and Lynsey Hipgrave (this year anyway) who have both worked for BBC 5 live in the past.

I always quite liked George Riley's football reports on the BBC, but I think his real passion is for Rugby League. No way can he be as smug as the BBC presenters on MOTD

Lynsey Hipgrave used to do the travel reports on 5 live, then graduated to co-presenting the Danny Baker Show and working for BT Sport I think. She is married to Dan Hipgrave of Toploader (Dancing in the Moonlight) and she is a Newcastle United supporter!

I find the biggest positive is that each game you play, you have a good chance of winning!  like

Funny isn’t it, I vividly remember the shock across the town (as it was then) when we were relegated for the first time in 1958, after just avoiding the drop the year before. This was probably the worst day in the life of any Sunderland supporter and it felt like the whole nation was laughing at us.

It would be 6 years before we returned to the top tier and that season (1963-4) still ranks as the most enjoyable I have ever experienced, with an abundance of talented  players including Hurley etc…. but the thing that sticks in my memory is the passion of the crowds. We averaged over 40,000 per league game and with the 4 FA Cup matches we topped 1 million in a season, which was probably a record for the 2nd division in those days.

I know that some of the younger supporters in particular will feel very angry at the current predicament just as I was in 1958 - but be assured, there is life outside the Premier League and I can guarantee that by the beginning of next season the anger will have abated somewhat and a few wins will change the atmosphere completely.

The Premier League does not have exclusivity to passion and for those who have never experienced life outside the top tier, next season may just be the start of an exciting new adventure where we win more than we lose.

Be assured, if we can put together a few decent performances at the start of next season, the sadness and bitterness being felt at the moment will be replaced by something a lot more pleasant.

Yes, as you say most of us have seen it all before... several times... LOL..

I agree too with your thought about 'that' 60s team.
Was great going to Roker Park in those days.  That 'Roker Roar' gave you goose pimples.
like

I started going regularly in '58  (I was 11) attending most matches.
In those days the bus from Consett took half a day to get to Park Lane.
Very Happy

Note to Syd....
When you occasionally say that people who do not attend today  are not 'supporters', I think the likes of us golden oldies did our bit back then !

Can't remember ever saying that people who don't attend are not supporters, people have many reasons for not attending and I like most on here is a golden oldie.
I don't really understand not going because of Short, he is rarely there anyway.
