Good for him and well deserved but realistically it's another opportunity to pick up an injury!

Only good news for me , Mr Defoe deserves this , from the outside to me he appears the true professional , irrespective of what this may or may not cause Sunderland this is one footballer I have tremendous admiration for . I congratulate him and his family and wish him well in his next England performance . Haway bonny lad , do you , your family , and SAFC and fans proud .

not got much time for most modern day footballers but Mr Defoe i have lots and lots of time for. Could easily have jumped ship but stuck with us. Well done and well deserved.  APPL
