We now know with some certainty just what our task is. We have had a season with everything stacked against us but we are still just in touch. Up to the players now.

Its time for our annual end of season CL form. We need almost a 50% win ratio over the last 11/12 games or whateveis left. Highly unlikely but theres a few dodgy results to come yet. Including us beating Chelsea on the last day of the season.
Still we will be safe by then.

The problem this season has been injuries and lack of funds for players. Also the Tinker man by not selling us Ullman (sp) did us no favours
We desperately need 3 points I am nervous already

You think. Even a EPL record win wouldn't do it!

Of course on the down side Burnley haven't won a league game away from home all season and you all know what our record often is when we are up against teams or players with such long running records.

Cheering words from our ever happy smiling manager...who said he is dour
Perhaps we will see the lanky German on saturday
David Moyes has warned not to expect too much too soon when three key Sunderland players eventually return to action. Jan Kirchhoff is back in full training and in line for a return to the squad to face Burnley in Saturday’s crucial Premier League clash, but Victor Anichebe and Lee Cattermole won’t be back for at least another three weeks. ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads With games running out for Sunderland – six points adrift of safety at the foot of the table – Moyes needs his key men back to bolster the flagging fight for survival. But the Black Cats boss says expectations need to be measured when they do return, given the length of time all three have been out. Kirchhoff hasn’t played since December, with striker Anichebe ruled out since January. Midfielder Cattermole has only played three games all season. Moyes said: “I’m hoping to get Victor back at the beginning of April – we’re looking at around another three weeks. “Could he back? I hope so, but I’m not quite convinced. “There’s a chance Lee Cattermole could be back in three weeks – I’m not convinced but I’m hoping so. We’d be hoping then for Kirchhoff certainly. “The thing is people have been out injured, you can’t expect them to come back and hit the ground running, they’ve been out so long. They’ve missed so much. “For them to make the difference is not an easy thing to do – they’ve missed most of the season.” Cattermole has been out since the Autumn after undergoing hip surgery in the US after a specialist found he was suffering from torn cartilage in his hip. The influential midfielder, a major loss in Sunderland’s season-long battle against the drop, suffered a setback in his recovery last month when he needed an injection in his Achilles.

The others will just have to start playing with the same intensity like they did when trialing for a contract and we'll have a chance

We are in a position we are used to and I am sure the players know what is needed and everything is riding on them and their determination.

Re: SUNDERLAND V BURNLEY..Match Day Thread
Sunderland simply must add to Burnley’s away-day blues
It is true that the worst-case scenario for Sunderland involves Burnley winning away from home for the first time this season. Given that Sean Dyche’s side have picked up only two points on the road, perhaps it is unlikely to materialise. Yet if events conspire against Sunderland this weekend, they could find themselves nine points off a safe position with 10 matches left. Mathematically they would still be in with a chance of staying up. Realistically, however, they will be all but down if they subject their long-suffering supporters to another grim afternoon at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Sunderland have lost their past three matches, scoring none and conceding eight, and victory over Burnley would not be enough to lift them off the foot of the table. But they simply have to win. Otherwise they can start planning for life in the Championship. JS
