He's been a league manager since 1990 yet has never managed a big club. He's 61 next March and you have to think that he never will.Big jobs and not so big jobs have come and gone but then what some would call `lesser managers' were appointed.Liverpool,Tottenham and Chelsea have changed managers regularly since 1990,but Martin has always been overlooked. For someone so highly regarded in the game,it does seem strange.

How can I put this, on Wednesday we were raw after a poor Tuesday, I think its fair to say that by Wednesday evening we had moved on.

Really looking forward to tomorrow and getting behind the boys 100%.

The question about MON, no idea and cant say I think about it.

A win against Villa should you would think, put us in a better shape for the trip to Everton the weekend after, but whatever tomorrow's score,i fully expect us to play 10-0-0 against the scousers.A `convincing' 0-0 draw would be very satisfying, but no further improvement the week after would heap more pressure on Martin. What i don't want to hear/read after anything other than a win against Villa are the usual excuses, and more importantly,no more blaming everyone and everything except himself.

What constitutes a 'Big club'? You could say he is managing a big club now and his previous club is a big club and it doesnt get much bigger than Celtic.

Is this thread just an attemp at wumming?

No big clubs play in pub leagues.

We are not a big club

Liverpool.Man Utd.Arsenal.Tottenham.Man City at present, and Chelsea for a few years now.If Martin got the sack,no team mentioned above would go for Martin,if they were after a manager.

Good post and absolutely on the mark. MON's few years at Villa are the nearest that he's got to having major success in the English Premier League and he was still a long way off the top, although it is fair to say that if he took us to that level I'd be very happy. His "success" with Celtic was simply that up there it's only a two horse race, well one horse now, and neither Rangers or Celtic would be any better than a mid table team in the EPL.

Reaching the final of a Cup Competition is done by winning a handful of games and is to be admired but it will never equal success gained by being a top team over a full season in a major league.

Maybe he doesn't want to and would rather have the challenge of getting a team like ourselves into the top echelons of at least English football.
