Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has confirmed he has been told to stay away from the club until Monday and has also apologised for "overstepping the mark".
Press Association Sport reported Barton was involved in an altercation with Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday.
"Some of the things I said were inappropriate and for that I apologise unreservedly," Barton, 34, tweeted.
But Barton added he did not feel boss Mark Warburton's decision for him to stay away from training was necessary.
In a statement on his Twitter account, the former Newcastle and Manchester City midfielder said he respected his manager's decision and claimed "there were only words involved in the disagreement, nothing else".
"Nevertheless, some of the words used did overstep the mark," he added.
"I regret what happened and on Monday I will report for training and I will do what it takes to help the team draw a line under it so that we can get back to the task at hand."

Anyone else finding it strange all this fuss about Barton's ban and alleged mis-use of betting rules all blows up the day before his new book launches?

Hmmmm
