Not exactly my terminology, but i understand you're meaning. The man had a brilliant political career ahead of him, his mind razor sharp. He would get people to do things that were alien to them, but his way would have them accepting his way was the right way. If ever a man self exploded it is Blair.

The one thing that happened that persuaded me that Blair was right with his decision, and I'm very surprised this has not been mentioned, was the way Saddam refused UN Inspectors to search several areas for WMD s, that, to me, was very suspicious and gave him time to remove or possibly disguise them!

My opinion, for what it's worth. On the search fo WMD is that Saddam didn’t want his enemies to know he had nothing.

The rights and wrongs of any war will never stnad up to logical scrutiny twelve years later. If certain actions had been taken in the thirties then WW2 would have been avoided. Saddam had bragged about his WDM, had used chemical weapons against the Iranians and Kurds, demonstrating just how ruthless he was. The UN inspectors had been given the runaround for years and the indications were he would use them. Plenty of warnings had been given to him which he laughed at so looking at our role in everything now should be balanced against that. Blair had the hard  decisions to make, not the journalists or pacifists and he was on a hiding to nothing if Saddam really did have the weapons.

I find the Iraq war and Blair a very difficult subject, one of mixed emotions.
Blair in general I was a fan of for a long time, war i have never been a fan of.

It's very easy looking back to be wise but it's hard for anyone to argue that invading Iraq for the reasons given was right, there again hindsight is wonderful.

Blair was and is a brilliant politician but in the end power corrupts most I guess.

As you say Syd, it's easy to be wise after the event! Before the war, Saddam had been boasting that he had WMD and had actually used them on Iran and the Kurds, he then refused access to sites the UN inspectors wanted to check, giving, imho, Blair no choice but to declare war, imagine the outcry there would have been if he had not done so and WMD had existed and had been used!

I was but one of many who went on the March against going to war in London....The evidence and reasons we joined Bush in ousting Sadam did not seem compelling at the time and with the benefit of hindsight even less so.

Blair did a lot if good stuff when he was PM, now however with his attitude and what he says about the Iraq war he has killed any reputation for statesmanship he had.

Bush was going after Saddam come what may and Blair was his pet poddle following him and dragging us into a war we should not have participated in and we're not prepared for.

whatever the rights and wrongs of going to war, it is totally shocking that having sent in our troops they did not have even adequate equipment ...
So many fatal catastrophes were preventable..
