Sunderland braced for keeper bids

Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford is believed to be a target for both Spurs and Manchester United.

Pickford managed 13 clean sheets in just 27 appearances during a loan spell at Preston North End in the first half of the campaign and his performances in the Championship seem to have attracted the attention of Spurs.

The White Hart Lane club are thought to have been tracking the 22-year-old for some time but the latest speculation suggests they could face competition from United, if Real Madrid reignite their interest in David de Gea this summer.

Sunderland are in a strong bargaining position should either Spurs or United come calling this summer as Pickford signed a new deal in January and is under contract until 2020.
Let's just keep this lad and promote him to first choice

Why Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce's latest comments should serve as a warning to Leeds United
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/05/23/why-sunderland-boss-sam-allardyces-latest-comments-should-serve/

Leeds United are in danger of being left behind by their Championship rivals, with their plans for next season still far from being completed.
Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has told the Chronicle that he is looking to offload his fringe players quickly this season, meaning that Leeds United need to act rapidly if they are to have any chance of signing Liam Bridcutt.
“We’ll address the situation as part of the big summer turnaround," Allardyce said. “We’ll try to do it as quickly as we possibly can. They have been out on loan and we’ll try to get them back out on loan again at the earliest opportunity, if we can’t move them on permanently.”
Bridcutt has impressed on a loan spell from Leeds from Sunderland this past campaign, and he has become a key player forthe Whites.
Bridcutt has previously suggested that he would be willing to move to Elland Road permanently, but Leeds now face a race against time if they are to sign him.
The Whites simply are in no place to make plans for next season yet, with uncertainty surrounding the Yorkshire club at the moment.
Manager Steve Evans is still unsure of his future, Leeds’ pre-season plans are nowhere near being finalised, and there is no head of recruitment in place.
As a result, Leeds cannot be drawing up plans to sign players and that will leave them behind the competition in the race for Bridcutt - which could prove costly.

Tottenham & Rennes Attackers Linked as Sunderland Consider Scottish Midfielder - What Would They Bring?

http://www.wearewearside.com/post/2016/05/24/transfer-update-black-cats-should-go-for-scottish-star.aspx

As the close season dawns, we review the latest Sunderland transfer rumours. Who should Big Sam be targeting?

James Morrison
Sunderland and Middlesbrough are reported to have the Scottish midfielder in their sights. Morrison has Premier League experience, having spent the last nine years at West Brom, but has been sidelined since mid-January with a hamstring problem. The player will be available on a free transfer, having turned down contract offers from West Brom.

He's a defensively-minded player, skilled at controlling the midfield and reading the game. He also contributes in attack, with three goals and three assists in his 18 games for Albion before his season was prematurely cut short. He has been a consistently good performer since promotion to the Premier League in 2010, leading Allardyce to speak highly of the 29-year-old on previous occasions.

Verdict: Sign him. Available on a free, he would bring instant benefits to the side. He is a similar player to Lee Cattermole, but with more versatility and attacking potential. He would do very well partnered with Jan Kirchhoff as part of an imposing, dynamic central midfield duo.

Kamil Grosicki
Stade Rennais' attack is the fifth-most potent in Ligue 1, and Grosicki has been a key part of it. Brought into the fold by new Rennais manager Rolland Courbis, the Pole has a reputation for making an impact as a super sub. He is a fast, pacy winger, able to play on either flank and not afraid to run at opponents. He has 8 goals in his 37 appearances for Poland, and his club manager has tipped him to be one of the stars at the upcoming Euro 2016.

Grosicki is a skilled, well-rounded attacking player, winning plaudits in France for his contributions. He can make key passes and assists just as well as scoring goals himself. However, he struggles in both French and English and shies away from the media, which may indicate problems adjusting to new surroundings. Allardyce likes to build rapport with his players and will surely be alert to the potential issues.

Verdict: Sign him, but don't break the bank. Grosicki would add variety in attack to the squad, but should not be regarded as a key priority. Wahbi Khazri and Fabio Borini already do an effective job on either wing, but Grosicki would fit in well as an impact sub.

Son Heung-min
The Spurs attacker is reportedly considering his options in the close season following disagreement on a number of principles between him and his club, and Sunderland have been linked with a move for the South Korean international. He is a threat when counter-attacking and likes to try to beat defenders with the ball. He has, at various times this season, played across the midfield and as a centre-forward, all to mixed reviews, but has contributed 7 goals in 35 appearances.

Wherever Son ends up next season, he is likely to miss the start of it, having expressed a wish to play for South Korea at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in August. This may give Allardyce pause for thought about signing him, because such a move would surely have an impact on pre-season preparations.

Verdict: Don't bother. Olympics or not, Son doesn't offer anything that we don't already have in Fabio Borini. Having paid £22 million for him just a year ago, Spurs are likely to demand a disproportionate fee for the player.

There are better options.
Danny has scored 2 from 55 appearances at top level.
In the Championship he stands at 14 goals from 41 appearances - this may be good enough for Brendon Rogers as the Championship would perhaps be similar to the SPL.

Sunderland are tracking QPR defender Steven Caulker, 24, who is available for £4.5m and Borussia Dortmund Nevan Subotic, 27, who could be available on a season-long loan deal

Red Devils scouts have been present at the under-21 Toulon tournament as they continue to scout Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, 22.

Not sure about Caulker but, could be worth a shot as for Subotic loans IMO are the root of all evil and why we have constantly struggled for the last five seasons. I get that we can take a look at them without any commitment to buy but, we would be looking at a player who will be playing out of his skin to get a deal then possibly start dropping off when the contract is signed. A lot of ifs and buts that's the way it is though, know nothing about Subotic so not sure how he will fit in.
As for Pickford if we lose him then it will be for big money, hoping he will stay if I'm honest as I can't see Mannone being number one next season if we keep Pickford.

SUNDERLAND LINKED WITH £10M MOVE FOR STRIKER

http://readsunderland.com/2016/05/30/sunderland-linked-10m-move-striker/

Former West Ham manager Sam Allardyce is interested in taking one of his formerHammers players – Diafra Sakho – to Sunderland, according to Simon Jones of theDaily Mail.
Sakho, whose West Ham career has been blighted by injuries and off-field issues, was signed by Allardyce for around £3.5million in August 2014 and ended up as theHammers’ leading scorer in the 2014/15 season.

inRead invented by Teads

However, the Senegalese international missed a large chunk of the most recent season with a hamstring injury as West Ham had one of their best campaigns in years.
It’s common knowledge that Slaven Bilic is looking to add at least one striker to his squad this summer with the likes of Michy Batshuayi, Christian Benteke, and Alexandre Lacazette all linked, but it’s likely that at least one more forward could leave the club and if West Ham could get the reported £10million that Sunderland are willing to offer, they could be tempted to let Sakho go.

Signing Neven Subotic would give Sunderland one of the Premier League's best defences
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/05/31/signing-neven-subotic-would-give-sunderland-one-of-the-premier-l/

According to a recent report from the Sunderland Echo, Black Cats manager Sam Allardyce wants to bring Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nevan Subotic to the Stadium of Light next season.
The 27-year-old has struggled for game-time in Germany this past campaign, making just 11 appearances in all competitions, but there is no doubting his quality and he would be a risk worth taking – just like Jan Kirchhoff before him.
Minor injuries have played a significant role in Subotic’s recent absences but if he did swap Dortmund for Sunderland he could help the Black Cats form one of the best defences in the English top flight.
Lamine Kone has been nothing short of sensational since signing for Sunderland in the January transfer window, and while John O’Shea and Younes Kaboul will have something to say about it, if Allardyce can partner the big Ivorian with Subotic he would have a central defence the envy of many.
subotic has played 258 times for Dortmund to date, scoring 18 goals in the process, and at his best the Serbian defender would be a wonderful option at the heart of most teams in Europe.
So what is Allardyce waiting for? After impressing with his last round of transfer business he could again spring a few surprises this summer, with Subotic unlikely to be the only coup if he does arrive at Sunderland in due course.

Sam Allardyce insists that Jordan Pickford will not be leaving Sunderland
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/05/31/sam-allardyce-insists-that-jordan-pickford-will-not-be-leaving-s/

Sam Allardyce has told the Chronicle that there is no danger that Jordan Pickford will leave Sunderland this summer.
Manchester United have reportedly been tracking the young goalkeeper, and were said to be likely to make a bid during the upcoming transfer window.
However, Allardyce insists that Pickford will not be moving to Old Trafford any time soon, as he is determined to keep the 22-year-old at the Stadium of Light.
“I know Pickford won’t be going anywhere, that’s for sure," Allardyce said.
Pickford made three senior appearances for Sunderland last season, and Allardyce has already proven his faith in the youngster.
The experienced boss recalled the England youth international from a loan spell at Preston North End soon after taking charge, and quickly sold Costel Pantilimon to Watford.
Pantilimon’s departure promoted Pickford to second choice, and the starlet is expected to play an even more prominent role next campaign.
Pickford is currently under contract at Sunderland until 2020, meaning that the North East side are under no pressure to sell

Giaccherini poised to join Torino
Last Updated: Wed, 01 Jun 2016 16:14
THE TRANSFER TIT BIT THREAD - Page 3 Photo
Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini is expected to seal a summer move to Italian side Torino.

The Italy international, who joined the Black Cats from Juventus in 2013, initially impressed in the Premier League before struggling with form and fitness over the course of 2014 and 2015 and was sent out on loan to Bologna last season.

The Serie A side were interested in turning the 31-year-old's spell there into a permanent deal after he managed seven goals for them last season but it appears Torino are now closing in on securing his services.

Reports say the Turin-based outfit are prepared to offer the Black Cats in the region of £6million for Giaccherini - a figure the club are more than willing to accept for someone boss Sam Allardyce views as surplus to requirements.

Giaccherini hopes his club future is resolved as soon as possible before he then concentrates on his role for Italy in this summer's Euro 2016 tournament.

Report: Ex-Sunderland man Asamoah Gyan could return to England, Chelsea interested
Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte could spring a surprise with one of his first signings for the club according to a report from the Chronicle, with the Blues allegedly interested in bringing former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan to Stamford Bridge.
Gyan is currently playing in the Chinese Super League for Shanghai SIPG after a four-year spell with UAE side Al Ain following his departure from the Stadium of Light in 2011.
The 30-year-old, who with 48 goals in 95 caps is Ghana's all-time leading goalscorer, became Sunderland's record signing in 2010 when he joined for £13 million after impressing at the World Cup in South Africa.
However, his time on Wearside was not hugely successful as he netted just 11 times in 33 appearances in his only full season at the club before leaving for Al Ain.
In the UAE and China he has been a goalscoring phenomenon, hitting 128 goals in just 120 games in the former and 10 in 15 for Shanghai, but with the star commanding a reported pay packet of £227,000 per week, it is thought his club are willing to sell him this summer.
According to the Chronicle, who cite sources in China, Chelsea are interested in what would be a shock deal to bring Gyan to Stamford Bridge as long as they can convince the striker to take a significant pay cut.
Though Gyan is undoubtedly a talented goalscorer, any such deal for a man whose career highlights have largely come on the international stage and who failed to set England alight in his single season in the Premier League would surely be a huge risk for Conte upon the Italian's arrival.
Having said that, Chelsea need more options up front, and there is a superb player still in Gyan despite his ventures out east in recent years.
