I know he is an 'interesting' character, and I know he is probably too expensive, and I know he is probably not David Moyes sort of player - but I would love us to sign Mario Balotelli! Another player that has lost his way? Is Moyesie the man to fix him and send a message to Liverpool at the same time? Would he be box office enough for people? Or TOO box office!  Laughing

According to BBC live text today:

Mario Balotelli's training...

...with the kids.

The Liverpool striker has posted a picture on Instagram with the reserve team at Anfield, with the caption: "Still working hard with the reserve team. Top quality session with top players."

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told striker Mario Balotelli to find a new club.
The Italian, 25, spent last season on loan at AC Milan but has now returned to Liverpool for pre-season training.
The former Manchester City striker has scored four goals for the Reds sincejoining the club in 2014.
"He's not at the stage of his career where he should be battling with four or five players for one or two positions," said Klopp.
"So it's clear we need a solution. There will be a club who would be happy to have the new Mario Balotelli."
Balotelli scored just three goals in a 23-game loan spell at the San Siro last season, and was not named in Italy's Euro 2016 squad.

Adam Matthews expected to complete #SAFC exit in next 48 hours. Not sure where yet, but Bristol City have obviously been chasing him

Rumours abound that Everton have b id £16m for Kone!!

It would be a clear sign of intent I f the club made it clear that he was not for sale, to sell him would be crazy, particularly when we are already short of centre backs. He could be an icon with this club if he stays around.

Tester for Moyes because I'm sure a nice 11 mil profit will excite Short.

I would hope he wants to stay and we want him to stay.

Yann M'Vila is 'close' to rejoining Sunderland from Rubin Kazan, according to reports

Sunderland look likely to finally be making their transfer breakthrough this summer with reports suggesting that a M'Vila deal is close

PA Wire[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Sunderland's Yan M'Vila celebrates after the final whistle

Yann M’Vila is close to rejoining Sunderland, according to reports in Russia.
The midfielder spent last season on loan with the Black Cats playing a central role in the battle to Premier League safety - playing in all but one of Sunderland’s 38 league games last season.
M’Vila returned to Russian side Rubin Kazan this summer but was told immediately he was not part of their plans and was free to leave with just six months remaining on his contract. He has been made to train with the reserves.
And now Russian publication Izvestia claim sources close to player are saying a deal between the two clubs is close, with a four-year contract also mentioned.
M’Vila has been vocal about his desire to return to the Stadium of Light next season, despite interest from elsewhere - notably Everton.
However, uncertainty at Sunderland brought about by Sam Allardyce’s England departure has delayed negotiations.
The Black Cats were thought to be asking Kazan to allow the player to leave on a free to subsidise the wages they’ll likely have to shell out on the Frenchman. It’s reported he earns over £100,000 per-week in Russia.
Rubin Kazan refused that request before the Allardyce situation brought negotiations to a temporary end.
Now with David Moyes in charge at Sunderland - a known admirer of the 26-year-old midfielder - it seems negotiations have begun again, with people close to the player confident a deal - which would see Rubin Kazan get some kind of fee - is close to being agreed.
The news will no doubt delight Sunderland fans who were eager to see him return. He is likely to become their first summer signing and the first of the new David Moyes era.
Rubin Kazan refused to comment when asked about the situation by Izvestia.

I know nothing about the guy, anyone have any more information? Sounds like the work permit issue will be the main problem in recruiting him though.  Sad

Club want to sell €25m man to Sunderland, and they’re keen to buy him

Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio.

We’ve been covering the Argentine player’s desire to move to the Premier League in the past few weeks, and it now looks like an interested club has finally shown up.
According to Thursday’s edition of Portuguese newspaper Record, Sunderland haven’t made an official bid yet, but the Portuguese side are already aware of the club’s intention.
Benfica reportedly want nothing less than €25m. The newspaper says they want to recover the money invested on the 26-year-old, as he signed from Atletico Madrid in 2012 for €11m.
That’s a pretty good recovery, we must say.
With only three starts last season, Salvio spent a long time out because of a knee injury which stopped him from joining Manchester City. Now as Benfica have too many wingers in the squad, they believe it’s time to let him go.
Both the clubs want the deal done, although it’s not mentioned if Sunderland would pay all that money. A work permit would also be a problem, since the player hasn’t been called up for the Brazilian national team.
Record says it could be possible by claiming he’s an exceptional talent. Is he?
The easier way to get the work permit is by amassing points due to transfer fee, wages, and the level of club he’d be joining from.

Sunderland remain in pole position to sign Yann M’Vila, but the summer-long pursuit is set to drag on.

There had been hopes of progress being made with Russian side Rubin Kazan for the permanent signing of M’Vila, who starred on loan for Sunderland last season.
But the Echo understands the deal is proving to be far from straight forward, with talks continuing between the two clubs.
It is thought the sticking point has been Kazan’s determination to bank a hefty fee for M’Vila - thought to be around the £5million mark - despite only six months remaining on his contract.
Sunderland, yet to make a summer signing, could wait until M’Vila is a free agent in January but would then risk other clubs beating them to his signature.
There are also question marks over his fitness levels as a result of his state-of-limbo this summer.
The former Rennes ace returned to his homeland last week due to what were supposedly visa issues.
M’Vila, who has no future at Kazan and has publicly declared he wants to return to Sunderland, is understood to be willing to take a hefty pay cut from his £100,000-a-week contract.
M’Vila was brought to Wearside last summer by Dick Advocaat and became a key figure under Sam Allardyce.
It is understood the change in management at Sunderland hasn’t affected the M’Vila deal.
The French midfielder was a target for Moyes in his final season at Everton, before the Scot took charge at Manchester United.
Everton have again been linked with a move this summer but Sunderland remain in pole position to land the 26-year-old.
Fans are crying out for new signings with the Black Cats the only Premier League side still to strengthen their squad.
Moyes and chief executive Martin Bain have been glued to their phones at the training base in France this week in a bid to secure a transfer breakthrough.
Moyes’ younger brother Kenny, who runs the Glasgow-based Libero Agency, has also spent time at the club’s Evian base on the banks of Lake Geneva.
He watched the 3-2 victory over Dijon FCO at the Stade Camille-Fournier on Wednesday night.

It's ridiculous now.

Just 2 weeks for kick off ... and no new faces / feet through the door..

What a Face

Fingers and toes crossed that there are no more injuries between now and kick off.
