WEST HAM UNITED V SUNDERLAND AFC
Saturday 27th February
KO 12.45
LIVE ON
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

2 weeks away so hopefully our walking wounded will be back, that said I would expect the same starting 11 if fit with a far stronger bench.

MANONNE
YEDLIN  KONE  OSHEA  VAN ANNHOLT
KIRCHHOFF
CATTERMOLE  M'VILLA
N'DOYE  DEFOE  KHAZRI

Pickford Borini Kaboul Rodwell Jones Watmore Lens

We will be looking for all three points but the first priority for Sam will be not to lose and a draw could well lift us out of the bottom three, that said a win would be no surprise.

Can we..

  • Maintain our performance level
  • Keep WHU out

I think we can definitely score

I was SO impressed with the performance against ManUre.

We now have strength and pace in midfield.
Here's hoping they stay fit..

I agree, Sam will be going for a point and a hope we can nick a win.

I've always been wary of Sandra Carroll but at last we have a very 'solid' (literally) stopper.

I am more than quietly confident we will get something from this. Two weeks break for the players to bond as a unit and for Sam to preach his science. The new players have had a baptism against top teams and turned in good performances.
 so confidence will be strong.

Then, I feel WHU are a bit of an enigma based on their results against those of us in the cellar. Losing to NUFC, draws with Villa and Norwich. I watched their cup tie replay against mainly LFC's second team last week and if Benteke had worn his shooting boots LFC would have walked it.

Sam's experience and wisdom allied to our new found belief and ability could very well see us win this one.

All games we go into  now we have to look to win. Because of our position in the  league by definition all teams are better than us. So we have nothing to lose in pushing for a victory.

I also agree with Sam a clean sheet is what we need and to nick a goal for the win.

It's so good to see that feel good factor returning. Of course we are all only to well aware how it could all go tit's up but I think we really do have cause for optimism and premier survival is a real possibility now.

What pleased me against City and United was that Sam showed he can go for wins, its not all about draws and he now has the players and spirit to do it.

Looking at those around us we know one thing for sure, when it comes to premier experience and how to fight, we have by far the best manager.

SWANSEA I think have a very tough programme.
Shaping up for an interesting last couple of months..

5 Home wins and 5 away draws would do me starting with a nil nil at West Ham

Yeah that is exactly what I thought when it happened. But I want to stay positive after Saturday's great result so I am going to say it was only a minor tweak and 2 weeks in Dubai will see him alright. Very Happy

I agree with not changing the team from Saturday but I do wonder about shifting O'Shea to RB and playing Kaboul alongside Kobe.   We do look weak at RB at the moment.

Row Z might get a bit of a pasting from our two CB's mind as there wouldn't be too much subtlety around!!!

Would swap Catts n Kirchoff positions.

Alt: 3-5-2.
Kaboul, Kone & Oshea at the back with PVA and Yeds bombing on

Still think we will win again regardless. Sam beating his old team and milking the applause coming his way.

I do not know what problems Catts has atm, his form for the past month or so has been awful. He has stopped fouling and having red mist moments perhaps that is the problem he has gone too cautious? Either that or he is carrying an injury?

I have been so impressed the last 3 games. While soaking up pressure from top opposition, they had the heart and skill to ask them questions. 4 points from 9 is excellent but with luck could have been even better.

I have said before I think he is still suffering from the sciatica problem we were told about a while ago. Anyone who has had sciatica knows that very little can be done to speed up recovery, but surely intense physical activity will make it worse not better? I don't know I am not a doctor. I bet he has to have injections every game to get through 90 mins, so it is hardly surprising he is not operating at full throttle. He probably needs complete rest for weeks if not months, but until we reach mid table mediocrity he is not going to get that rest is he?

Sunderland desperate to avoid surgery for injured Lee Cattermole

Lee Cattermole

Chris Young 06:29 Friday 11 December 2015

Lee Cattermole will not be rushed back into competitive action, with Sunderland desperate to avoid surgery for the injured midfielder.

Cattermole will miss tomorrow’s visit of Watford after suffering a recurrence of a back injury in training seven days ago - a problem which had sidelined him for three weeks when it first occurred last month.

The 27-year-old has paid a return visit to the London specialist who treated him during the last international break, for a sciatic problem which stems from the disc in his back pressing against a nerve.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is unsure of the length of Cattermole’s absence while a course of fresh treatment attempts to eradicate the issue.

But Allardyce is being extra cautious over Cattermole’s return to the fold, to ensure the club’s longest-serving first-teamer avoids a long-term spell on the sidelines.

Allardyce told the Echo: “He doesn’t want to come back this time until he’s 100 per cent comfortable.

“We don’t want it to escalate into an operation because that could be weeks or months out.

“We want to make sure we get it right this time.

“He’s already been back to the specialist.

“It’s going to take a bit more time now it’s reoccurred.

“Now it’ll be about making sure the whole area around the injury is strengthened to give it a little bit more protection.

“He thought he was okay. He didn’t have any symptoms.

“Maybe because we played two games (Crystal Palace and Stoke) in five days, we overlooked that and should have said ‘whoa, step out of this one’.

“But we were so desperate for a couple of wins, nobody ever suggested it.

“I didn’t even think about it and he didn’t complain about it, but maybe that was the cause.

Maybe the key to resting Catts could be the return of Larsson who could take over the job  that Catts has been doing for the past few games. Also, maybe this is why Sam has been using Kirchhoff in the defensive role to bed him into his long term one with the return of Seb in mind. Nice to have options like that available to us for a change.

I am not fussed about the Kirch injury as being part of his history as a couple of weeks ago Defoe pulled up with hamstring problems and was immediately subbed.
