LOAN WATCH: Black Cats impress

Published: 02 November, 2015
by Oscar Chamberlain

Giaccherini and Honeyman net winners, Pickford keeps clean sheet.

Emanuele Giaccherini – Bologna 3-0 Atalanta

Emanuele Giaccherini scored his first goal for Bologna as they cruised past Atalanta in Serie A.

The Italian’s 15-yard strike put the hosts ahead with 52 minutes played before Mattia Destro doubled their advantage six minutes later.

Substitute Franco Brienza made it 3-0 five minutes from time as Bologna climbed to 18th place.

George Honeyman – Boreham Wood 2-3 Gateshead

George Honeyman was the hero for Gateshead as the Tynesiders sealed a late 3-2 win over Boreham Wood.

Gus Mafauta and Daniel Johnson netted in the opening 11 minutes but Wood fought back with Billy Clifford netting a penalty before the break.

On-loan Barnet winger Mauro Vilhete then headed the hosts level from Anthony Jeffrey’s cross, but Honeyman struck with 13 minutes remaining to hand Gateshead the points.

Jordan Pickford – Preston North End 0-0 Bolton Wanderers

Jordan Pickford’s impressive loan spell with Preston North End continued with a 0-0 draw against Bolton Wanderers.

The Sunderland loanee kept his eighth clean sheet in all competitions to remain three points clear of the bottom three, with Neil Lennon’s Bolton currently sitting in 22nd.

Joe Garner and Daniel Johnson both tested visiting keeper Ben Amos with Gary Madine forcing Pickford into action, but it was the goalkeepers who came out on top at Deepdale.

Dylan McEvoy – Boston United 3-1 FC United of Manchester

Dylan McEvoy grabbed an assist as Boston United beat FC United of Manchester 3-1.

Dayle Southwell opened the scoring from the spot after Mark Jones went down in the box, with Jordan Richards doubling their advantage three minutes later with his first goal for the club.

Matthew Wolfenden kept his side side within touching distance making it 2-1 in the 45thminute, but Boston had the final say as Carl Piergianni headed home his fifth goal of the campaign from McEvoy's free kick.

Santiago Vergini – Getafe 0-2 Barcelona

Santiago Vergini completed 90 minutes as Getafe suffered a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring with his 300th career goal before Neymar added a second two minutes before the hour mark.

The result leaves Getafe 15th in La Liga.

Will Buckley – Leeds United 0-2 Blackburn Rovers

Will Buckley was an unused substitute as Leeds United fell to a 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Thursday evening.

With our paper thin, injury prone, aging defenders was it a mistake to send Vergini on loan?

Yes, I quite liked Santi once he got up to the pace of the EPL. He was never as bad as some made out and is certainly better than what we currently have. Similarly with Roberge. Is he really a worse option than what we saw on Sunday?
