Golf coverage

Post  sunderpitt on 2015-07-20, 11:12 am

When the tories announced they were doing Murdoch's bidding and having a go at cutting the BBC's remit, I thought how awful.

I also thought it was awful that the BBC keeps losing major sporting events, as I prefer not to watch adverts (with Sky you pay and still have to watch adverts). Now I was cross that the BBC lost The Ope,. but today, cos of the weather, the golf has run into a 5th day and it is all hotting up. However coverage does not begin until the afternoon, instead cooking and home programmes are being broadcast. Now I will not be alone in hoping the BBC loss the rights to broadcast a year early..this is nonsense.

I know it is a disgrace, and they are even mostly repeats! This is what the Guardian live blog reports a BBC spokesperson has said:

“The BBC has brought unprecedented coverage of this year’s Open to the widest possible, free to air audience - with extended scheduling across all days of competition, including two extra hours on both Friday and Saturday. Our key aim today is to fully tell the most important story - who will win the Open - and make the very best use of our resources on this extra day’s play. We will be following the leaderboard top ten from the start of their rounds to their finish plus the continued action from those that started before them - so audiences won’t miss any of the key action as it unfolds.”

So in the BBC's eyes only those in with a chance to win the Open matter. So glad they have confirmed that it is not the taking part that is important. I would bet that Hazel Irvine and Peter Alliss and Andrew Cotter et al do not agree with this decision at all, made by some executive who does not understand sport.  Mad Mad

Like you Sunderpitt, I know the adverts are an annoyance on Sky, but they really do know how to show a golf tournament and give the viewers what they want. Mind I hope they also recruit Ken Brown. I just love him  Very Happy

Dunne has picked up now though so good for him to get back to 12 under

I would love Sergio to win this personally. He is playing very well and deserves to win a major. Now I hexed him as I was writing he bogeyed that hole!  tongue

I predict a 3 or maybe 4 man play off.

No problem with Sergio winning it at all

He just bogeyed the next one as well so I did jinx him, or maybe that explains why he has never won a major. Can't keep his rounds going.  Sad

Sergio ' weakness like Lee Westwood ' is that his putting is not deadly enough..Pity both good players but have to lower their number of putts.
