One day in May - The Story of the Bradford City fire.

Post  Billy D on Tue May 26, 2015 11:12 pm

Watched this on BT sport tonight.
Grim viewing but very poignant.
I've seen some shit in my time but I had tears in my eyes watching this & I feel very humbled.

I remember the day well Billy and a little like Hillsborough the thing that gets me is a bit of light hearted laughter at strange events quickly become tears as the tragedy unfolds and people die.

Always brings it home how unimportant many things in life are.

Yes, very true Syd.
I too remember both events very clearly.
Hillsborough I was with my dad in the pub & people were saying things like, "oh no, Liverpool at it again", not realising what was really going on.
The pool table stopped, the jukebox stopped & the bandit stopped as folk stood & watched with horror as events unfolded.

Bradford was just surreal. 4.5 minutes was all it took for the entire stand to burn to the ground.
The shot of the policeman with his hair on fire was due to spontaneous combustion because of the sheer heat.
The paint on cars outside the stadium was blistering, imagine what it was like for those poor people trapped inside.
I know it's a long watch but anybody with a spare 1.5 hours, give it a go.
It's heart rendering.  Crying or Very sad

I remember the day well and I remember we had a special memorial service before our next home game at Roker. I attended, along with many of you on here I bet, and can recall the sorrow and tears as we sang Abide With Me.  Crying or Very sad
