HITC Sport understands Sunderland are planning a move for highly-rated Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Danny Batth in this summer's transfer window .

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Sunderland are ready to make a big-money move for Wolves captain Danny Batth.
Batth has established himself as one of the best defenders outside of the Premier League after impressing in the last couple of seasons at Molineux.
The 23-year-old helped Wolves win promotion to the Championship last season and was an instrumental figure this term as Wolves just missed out on a play-off spot on goal difference.

The powerful centre-back is currently recovering from a stress fracture to his foot which forced him to miss the last two games of the season, but he is expected to be back for the start of pre-season.
The injury denied Batth a club record for consecutive appearances as had he seen out the season, he would have become the first outfield Wolves player to start every league match in successive 46-game seasons.
A number of Premier League clubs have been monitoring Batth's progress at Wolves and Sunderland are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by making an early move for the defender.

Sunderland are in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer regardless of the division they find themselves in next season.
Veteran Wes Brown is out of contract at the end of the campaign, while fellow centre-halves Sebastian Coates and Santiago Vergini are both only on at the Stadium of Light on loan

Looks like we may be sticking to the tried and tested formula that gets us in the shit every season.

Doesn't sound promising to be honest, in fact it sounds like another typical Congerton deal not PL but, Championship at best.
Therefore not much cop in PL, having said that I've never heard of the lad so he may be decent. Let's wait and see who else is in for him before we dive in.

See this as fairly positive move to buy a youngster to learn alongside JOS for a season. At least he is Brit and one for the future rather than a PL CB pushing 30 looking for a last big payday.

How many more for the future are we going to buy though Nos? Why buy for the future and keep the Academy going? I could understand 1/2 plus the Academy lads but, every player we get seems to be one for the future. A future where they do well then get sick and tired of not getting their chance they then move on. It's not the future we need players for its the present mate and, for the most part Championship players do not cut it inPL, unless we are recruiting for the Championship!!!!!!!

Know nothing about the Wolves lad, so cannot really comment.

However I would argue in general their is nothing wrong with picking talent up from lower divisions or indeed what about our own under 21s....who was the last person to make that leap into the first team?. Southampton seem to do and a few other clubs who do not have 'oil money' seem to promote their own youth....

Agreed if they are talented mate but, the ones we get are not. My sort of mark for a talented player is that other PL teams are in for him or are showing interest in him then the lad should have something about him.
Another point to this one is he will come to us injured needing time to get his leg or foot couldn't really make out which back to strength.
Put another way who was the last Wolves player we bought?
Who was the last Championship player we bought?
Look at those two then tell me he will be good and a bargain.
My point about our own youth system is the same as yours mate why can't we do it when many other PL teams can and, of those that can they are in the same boat as us not rich and not a top 4 PL club

Not claiming that this lad is an outstanding talent but looking at the recent incidents regarding Laing and Noble our academy does not appear to be any great shakes. Admittedly it has produced players but not for some time; furthermore, the clamour for Watmore to be brought in is based on what he is doing at the minute and he was signed from Altrincham!

Sign a foreign player and he is automatically given twelver month grace to "settle in" while a promoted kid has to perform from the first game on and any bad game automatically sees him as a dud. Then there are the outstanding prospects who represent England at every stage of their career but never make it in the top division. Rodwell?

In short, you never what you have got until you sign them, but signing proven PL old pros could have very well lead to our current problems. We have to find the balance but be prepared to go through the process before we know the result.
