Former Newcastle and Sunderland striker Michael Chopra scores crucial goal for Alloa Athletic in relegation battle

The striker has scored for Alloa Athletic in a big relegation battle.

Alloa Athletic started today bottom of the Scottish Championship. The club trailed Cowdenbeath by one point going into the final day of the season where they would take on, Cowdenbeath.
But they have survived to live another day after beating their opponents 3-0.
An own goal from John Armstrong and a strike from Liam Buchanan finished things off, but the ball got rolling after a former [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] star netted.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] scored in the 12th minute of the game. It was his first goal for the club in eight appearances since making a shock move to Scottish football in mid-March.
It is a massive fall from grace for the player.
The former Newcastle United trainee signed for Sunderland for a fee reported [url=http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/05/02/former-newcastle-and-sunderland-striker-michael-chopra-scores-cr/ [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] the BBC to be in the region of £5million in July 2007 after banging in the goals for Cardiff City.[/url]
His time in Sunderland was disappointing and he soon returned to Cardiff City before his career began to nosedive. He struggled during stints with Ipswich and Blackpool and most recently played for Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League - where he appeared to be fairly overweight.
Despite all this, we imagine he will always hold a place in the hearts of Alloa fans after today's heroics. That is if they can get through their play-off fixture and survive.

Thanks for that S. Knew most but not all of his history on here and missed the Alloa bit despite following football north of the Border having been closely connected at one time.

Another maverick. Not in the Bestie/Gazza/ Sansom/ etc mould class, but nonetheless I often wonder (like, once every 10 years) whether or not he could have been really good if he had not been so easily distracted. Hopefully he will move into Alloa and not near me.
